MEET PUFFIN
Puffin is ready for his forever home! Puffin was brought into PPP when he was 16-weeks-old as a part of PPP's service dog training program. Unfortunately, Puffin is not confident enough in new environments to be happy as a service dog. PPP is looking for a pet home for Puffin. Puffin would not be suitable to continue training as a service dog or therapy dog.
Puffin is currently 1-year-old and approximately 80 lbs. Puffin loves training and knows sit, down, wait, coming when called, touch, name response, under, leave it, go potty, go to bed, front, turn, and many more cues. Puffin also knows some of his basic cues in Spanish as well as English. Puffin generally does well in a crate but may bark when left alone in a crate in new environments at first. He does well being bathed and groomed. Puffin generally walks well on a leash but may pull in new environments. Puffin is accustomed to wearing a front-clip harness and Halti to help manage this behavior.
Puffin is generally healthy but is allergic to chicken. Puffin does well on a salmon-based diet with no poultry. Puffin also has some environmental allergies which are well controlled with a Cytopoint injection at the start of allergy season. Puffin is currently intact and will be adopted on a contract and must be neutered by 15 months. This is to reduce Puffin's risk of joint and muscle injuries since he is a large breed dog.
Puffin loves to play! He is a true water dog and loves jumping in the pool or chasing the water hose. He is just as happy to go on long walks as he is to lying on the couch and relaxing. Puffin is generally good with other dogs, but does not get along with other intact males. Puffin can be a little uncomfortable around new people and takes some time to warm up, therefore he would be best suited for a home with children over the age of 12. Puffin is super food motivated and loves to learn new tricks!
