MEET OAKLEY
Oakley is ready for his forever home! Oakley was brought into PPP when he was 10-weeks-old as a part of PPP's service dog training program. Unfortunately, Oakley is a little too sensitive to be happy working as a service dog. PPP is looking for a pet home for Oakley. Oakley would not be suitable to continue training as a service dog or therapy dog.
Oakley is currently almost 2-years-old and approximately 70 lbs. Oakley loves food and likes training. Oakley knows sit, down, wait, coming when called, touch, name response, under, leave it, go potty, go to bed, front, turn, and many more cues. Oakley generally does well being crated and his handlers and fosters report that he is very polite around the house. He does well being bathed and groomed. Despite training, Oakley does pull hard if he is not wearing a Gentle Leader or other head collar. Due to his size and strength, he would do best in a home with children over the age of 7.
Even though Oakley is a poodle mix, he does shed and his coat is not considered hypoallergenic. His coat will require daily brushing to remain tangle free.
Oakley is generally healthy and has not had any health concerns during his time at PPP. He is up to date on all his vaccines and is neutered. Oakley does show some signs of motion sickness when inside a car and may drool or vomit during car rides. He has been prescribed an anti-nausea medication for his carsickness.
Oakley is a very gentle soul with people and is a lower energy pup who is perfectly satisfied with long walks and hanging out on the couch. Oakley has never met a stranger and is a very polite greeter. His fosters say that he seems to pick up on people's anxiety and will rest his head in their lap when someone is upset. Oakley loves his stuffed toys and will gather them up and rest his head on them when he is done playing. Oakley prefers having all the attention to himself and would do best in a home with no other dogs. He may get along with a large, mellow, female dog, but generally does not enjoy the company of little dogs or boisterous, high-energy dogs.
